How to connect a chrome cast device to a projector for streaming

Updated: Aug 14, 2023

If your home projector does not have a built in streaming platform (ie android projector), a Google chrome cast device is the perfect solution to easily stream online media via your home projector. Your chrome cast device plugs directly into your projector HDMI port for quick access to your favourite streaming services such as Netflix, Youtube, TV platforms etc. Chrome cast devices are widely available in electronic retail stores. Simple to setup with less cords and tangles. Simply plug your chrome cast device into your projector and your home theatre streaming experience will be setup in a few minutes.

1. Power projector AND chrome cast device

Ensure that your chrome cast device and projector are both turned on and connected to power.

(i) Plug the projector power cord into mains power outlet and connect to projector port. Turn on main power switch at wall.

(ii) Next, connect your chrome cast device/dongle into the HDMI port on the projector, plug the chrome cast power lead/HDMI cord to the chrome cast device port and plug other end into mains power. Make sure the connections are secure. Turn the projector unit ON (via projector unit or remote control).

TIP: We like to use a small multi-power board adapter if our projector is positioned away from the main power point. This keeps cords neat and tidy, and extends reach of power cord to main powerpoint.

2. Select Input Source (HDMI) on projector

Locate Source button on the projector ("S") or the remote control.

Press the Source button repeatedly to scroll through options. Scroll to HDMI option and press "OK" button on projector/remote. Then wait a few seconds for your chrome device to detect the projector. The chrome cast home screen should appear on your projected surface (ie. similar to below example). Congratulations! Your chrome cast device is now connected to your projector.

TIP: Ensure your smartphone/smart device is connected to same WiFi as your chrome cast device. (If your chrome cast device is new, follow instructions provided with device for setup before connecting to the projector).

3. Choose your streaming service on your smart device

You can now open a web browser on your smart device (e.g. smartphone) and navigate to the streaming website or App of your choice to watch TV shows, movies, live sports etc. Click on the tv/wifi icon on top of your smart device screen to display show on projector display.

TIP: Ensure your smart device is charged!

4. Projector focus and adjustment

Position your home projector for optimum screen size by moving it towards/away from screening surface (wall). Ensure it is positioned on a raised, flat surface. Next, use the keystone correction wheel to adjust focus and angle of the screen to achieve a clear image.

TIP: If you don't have a projector table, use a small coffee table, stool or box. Use foot screw adjuster underneath the projector to help achieve best angle.

5. Sit back and enjoy your projector

Now that your chrome cast device is connected to your home projector the final step is now up to you - what to watch? Push play, break out the popcorn and enjoy watching your streamed show on the big screen from the comfort of home.
